The main research focus of DrosBeg group is evolutionary genetic phenomena using Drosophila as model organism. The research with Drosophila with us began in late 60ies and the end of year 1969 marks the start of teaching at graduate level in Genetics at Biology studies at University of Belgrade. That was the foundation of cooperative research between Department of Genetics (at present Department of Population Genetics and Ecogenotoxicology) at Institute of Biological Research (http://www.ibiss.bg.ac.rs/?lan=3&menu=175) and Chair of Genetics and Evolution at Faculty of Biology (http://www.bio.bg.ac.rs/). Our work is organized and members are affiliated in these two institutions, both within University of Belgrade. We continued to be the only “Drosophila population genetic laboratory” in the region of former Yugoslavia, with widely recognized achievements through publications and collaboration with compatible national and international groups.
